From Silence to Confidence: Lika’s Journey in Preschool

In Preythom Community, 5-year-old Rong Lika has undergone a remarkable transformation, thanks to the support of the community preschool program.  Rong Lika, the eldest of three children, lives in a rural community where her father works as a construction worker and her mother is a farmer. Prior to joining the preschool, Lika was shy and struggled with basic social interactions. In December 2023, Lika enrolled in the Preythom Community Preschool.  The program provides early childhood education and socialization opportunities for children aged 3 to under 6 years, preparing them for grade 1.  Before joining the preschool, Lika rarely spoke and did not use polite language when interacting with family members, indicating a lack of early childhood social skills and confidence.  Since joining the preschool, Lika has shown tremendous growth.  She actively participates in class, takes knowledge tests every three months, and has become one of the brightest students. Her communication has improved, and she now confidently uses polite language with family and friends.  Lika is excited to begin grade 1 at the local primary school.  Her family is proud of her progress, and they are hopeful that her education will lead to a brighter future.  Lika’s growth reflects the broader impact of the preschool program, which is helping children in rural areas develop the foundational skills needed for lifelong learning.  Thanks to the dedication of her teacher and the support of the preschool program, Lika has become a shining example of how early childhood education can transform lives.  We extend heartfelt gratitude to the donors whose generous support has made stories like Lika’s possible.  Your contributions are building brighter futures for children in Preythom Community.

Nuy Channa, a 4-year-old boy, began his early education at the Khnach Community Preschool in December 2023. Since joining the program, Channa has made significant progress in foundational skills. He has learned essential knowledge, including counting numbers, recognizing the basic Khmer alphabet, and assisting his parents with light housework.  Additionally, Channa has developed the ability to care for himself and enjoys participating in learning activities alongside his classmates.  He consistently shows enthusiasm for attending preschool rather than staying at home.

His mother expressed her gratitude, saying, “I am really impressed with how active my son has become.  He is now able to do basic housework, speak more words, and truly enjoys going to preschool.  I would like to thank CCAFO for bringing this opportunity to our community.”

CCAFO is currently supporting 23 community preschools across remote areas where no formal kindergarten programs exist.  These preschools provide young children, like Channa, with access to early education during the critical years of brain development.  The Community Preschool Program plays a vital role in laying the groundwork for lifelong learning, fostering cognitive, emotional, and social growth from an early age.
